Psychosissi @GRAW

Tijdens het Groot Rotterdams Atelierweekend (GRAW) opent ook Stichting B.a.d haar deuren. We maken een tentoonstelling in onze centrale hal, getiteld ‘Mix-Up!’, waar ook ik aan mee doe. Daarnaast is in de vitrinegalerie het werk van Teresa Hunyadi te zien én gooit een aantal kunstenaars het atelier open, waaronder ik!

Tijdens GRAW presenteer ik mijn nieuwe project Psychosissi. Onder deze (werk)titel maak ik prenten en schilderijen die gaan over wanhoop, vertekening en vergetelheid. Eraan ten grondslag ligt de Sissi-trilogie van Ernst Marischka, met Romy Schneider in de rol van keizerin Elisabeth ‘Sis(s)i’ van Oostenrijk-Hongarije. De films spelen in de jaren 1850, maar zeggen zo mogelijk meer over de jaren 1950, waarin ze zijn gemaakt. Dat sluit naadloos aan bij mijn fascinatie voor geschiedenis en verhalenvertellers.

Ik vertel je er graag meer over op mijn atelier! Op zaterdag 20 en zondag 21 september ben je van 11 tot 17 uur van harte welkom aan Talingstraat 5 te Rotterdam. Ik heb heel veel Sissi, en zorg net als Ernst Marischka voor een suikerzoet randje.

Tijdens GRAW kun je allerhande ateliers bezoeken. Daarnaast zullen wij op zaterdagavond een filmevenement organiseren bij B.a.d: ‘Off Screen’. Vanaf 20.30 uur zijn filmwerken van leden van de Kunstambassade te zien. Ook worden deze makers geïnterviewd.

Voordat de films beginnen word je ook vermaakt. Om 17 uur openen we de bar voor de ‘overblijvers’, ik kook ook een lekker buffet. Om 18 uur laat B.a.d-gast Tommi je ‘Knitting the internet’ zien en om 20 uur ben je uitgenodigd voor de performance van B.a.d-gast Ariela Bergman.

During GRAW, the ‘Groot Rotterdams Atelierweekend‘, Foundation B.a.d (where I’ve happily had my studio for over a decade now) will open its doors to present a group show that I will also partake in: ‘Mix-Up!’
We will also show the works of Teresa Hunyadi in our window gallery, and a few artists will open their studio doors as well: I am happy to announce that I am one of those artists.

I will present my new project Psychosissi: prints and paintings about despair, distortion and oblivion. My starting point is the Sissi Trilogy: three Ernst Marischka films about Empress Elisabeth ‘Sis(s)i’ of Austria-Hungary, portrayed by Romy Schneider. What I find fascinating is that these films might reveal more about the 1950s, when they were filmed, than they do about the 1850s when the story is set.

I’d love tot tell you more about it in my studio. Drop by on Saturday 20 or Sunday 21 September between 11 and 17h (11am-5pm). I’ll provide a bunch of super sweet Sissis – and sugar on top.

During GRAW you can visit a lot of studios throughout Rotterdam. On Saturday evening, we’ll host a film event at B.a.d as well: ‘Off Screen’. Films by artists affiliated with the Kunstambassade will be shown, accompanied by artist talks / interviews. Off Screen starts at 20.30h / 8.30 PM.
